Currently, major emphasis training is placed on pest management strategies for use in corn, soybeans, small grains, forage crops, vegetables, and beekeeping. At the Maryland Pest Management Center, they put high priority on research to solve all the pesticide concerns of citizens. The main focus is emerging pests, strategies to reduce the cost and selection, and lean towards natural biological controls. Basic research for long term solutions is currently being looked into, for the resistance of plants, plant/insect interactions and relations and the upcoming pests.
